What is Critical Illness Cover?

Critical illness cover is normally designed to pay out a lump sum in the event or the insured person being diagnosed from one of the specified serious illnesses listed on their policy, within the term of that policy.  The most common payouts from all insurers are for cancer, heart attack and stroke, however many other conditions are also covered and if you have children, we can cover them as well. The range of options available can be bewildering, from insurers offering budget cover to those offering a huge range of enhanced payments.

How we help you:

We will go through all of the available options with you and we have sophisticated software which allows us to compare cover from all of the major providers.  If you have an old policy, we can also review this and provide a direct comparison with the newer policies available. Get a £75 Amazon.co.uk voucher when you take out a policy through us. See our voucher T & C’s for more detail.

Suffering from a critical illness or long term disability is not only emotionally devastating, can be financially devastating as well.  Nobody likes to think that it could happen to them or their family, but if it does, you can ensure that money would be one less thing to worry about.  As the Macmillan TV advert states, “Cancer doesn’t care about your bills”.

Critical Illness Cover can be used to:

  • Repay a mortgage

  • Repay loans and credit card debt

  • Pay out a lump sum to help you cope with bills and regular outgoings while you concentrate on your recovery

  • Pay for private treatment

  • Pay for help in the home, help with childcare or specialist equipment

  • Take some much needed time out

‘Don’t leave it to chance, make sure that you and your loved ones are properly protected with Critical Illness Cover.’
If I get life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection will it all be with the same company?

Not necessarily. We use a range of leading insurers to put together a tailor-made solution for you from multiple sources so we may recommend one particular insurer or we may recommend a combination of insurers, depending on what is best for you.

Can I get a joint policy with my partner?

Yes, if that is appropriate. We will normally assess couples together so that you have exactly the right cover to protect both yourselves and each other.

What happens if my health changes after I’ve got a policy?

If your health deteriorates after you have already taken out a policy, an insurer can not cancel your cover. If you are concerned, talk to us.

If I have insurance already can I change/make changes?

It depends on the terms of your plan as some plans are more flexible than others. Talk to us and we can look at this for you.

I think I’m paying too much for my cover, can you find me something cheaper?

Maybe, especially if you took out insurance direct from a bank or building society. Or we may be able to build you better cover for the same price.  Either way, we will be more than happy to review your existing cover for you.

If I need to make a claim will you help?

Yes, we are always happy to help. See out claims page.

Why use us?

We are unbiased, impartial and independent: Sourcing cover from leading insurers, often at a more competitive price than you would be able to get from a comparison site or even from an insurer direct.

No fees: Insurance providers pay us commission, which means that we do not charge you a fee.

We advise: We talk to you to ensure that you have the right cover for your own individual circumstances.

We listen: You tell us what you would want to happen to your family if you die or if you are ill.

We care: Our clients are not numbers to us, we genuinely care about what we do and about the advice which we provide.

Aftercare: If you or your family are ever unfortunate enough to need to claim, let us know and we will do what we can to help.

You will be making a difference to others: Every year, we donate a proportion of our profits to support a carefully chosen charity.

Is critical illness cover expensive?

We will always ensure that our recommendations are affordable and will work within your budget.

How much cover do I need?

This really depends on individual circumstances and budget. We will work with you to provide you with suitable cover within your budget.

Do I have to be unable to work in order to claim?

Not necessarily.  If your illness meets the definitions, you can claim, regardless of whether you are able to work or not.  The payment will enable you to have a choice.

I have heard that insurers never pay out, is this true?

This is not true. The majority of claims are paid and we can provide you with full statistics from the insurers to prove this.

I already have life cover, why would I need critical illness cover?

Critical illness cover is there to protect the living.  Many people will survive a Critical Illness, however, the effect may be life-changing so it is great to have a financial backup plan.

What is the difference between getting advice and getting a quote on your site?

A quote will give you an indication of the cost, however, that does not necessarily mean that the cover chosen is the most suitable. Our job is to advise you and help you to make an informed decision.
